St. Agnes (d. 304). Name means "Pure" (Greek: Hagne) and "Lamb" (Latin: Agnus). The Governor's son wanted to marry her. She said: "I am already promised to a Lord who is far more noble than you."
The Miracle
They tried to drag her to a brothel to shame her. Legend says her hair grew instantly to cover her body. They tried to burn her at the stake. The fire parted around her. Finally, she was beheaded.
The Lambs
Every year on her feast day (Jan 21), two baby lambs are blessed by the Pope. their wool is used to make the Pallium (white stoles) worn by Archbishops.
