March for Life — Why We Walk

It is the largest annual human rights demonstration in the world. Why Catholics march in January (and why we won't stop).

Every January, hundreds of thousands of people descend on Washington D.C. (and other capitals). They are young. They are joyful. They are freezing.

The History

The March began in 1974, on the first anniversary of Roe v. Wade (Jan 22, 1973), the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion. Even though Roe fell in 2022 (Dobbs), the March continues. Why? Because abortion still exists. The battle has moved to the states.

Why We Walk

We don't walk to shout. We walk to witness. We walk for the 60 million lives lost. We walk for the women who regret their abortions (Silent No More). We walk because, as Dr. Seuss said: "A person's a person, no matter how small."
