Before you attack the mashed potatoes, pause. Thanksgiving is a Eucharistic holiday (Eucharist means "Thanksgiving").
1. Traditional Blessing
Bless us, O Lord, and these thy gifts, which we are about to receive from thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
2. Prayer for the Gathered Family
Lord, we thank you for the gift of this food, but more for the gift of those sitting around this table. Bless our conversation. Heal any old wounds. Let our laughter be a sign of your joy.
3. Prayer for Those Who Are Missing
We remember today those who are not with us—those who have traveled, those who are serving in the military, and those who have gone home to You. May their souls rest in peace, and may they feel our love across the distance.
Give thanks in all circumstances. Find more table blessings on the MyPrayerTower app.
A Prayer for Grace
As you reflect on these spiritual truths, we invite you to join us in this prayer:
"Lord Jesus, we thank You for the wisdom of the Church and the witness of the saints. Grant us the grace to live out our faith with joy and perseverance. May our prayers be a sweet incense rising to Your throne, and may Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Amen."
