In many countries (Germany, Israel, Poland), New Year's Eve is called Silvester. Who was he? Pope St. Sylvester I reigned during a massive turning point: The conversion of Emperor Constantine. He oversaw the Council of Nicaea (which gave us the Creed). He built the first great basilicas in Rome (St. John Lateran, St. Peter's).
The Transition
He represents the shift from the "Church of the Martyrs" (underground) to the "Church of the Empire" (public). He is the saint of new eras. If you are facing a major life transition this year, ask St. Sylvester for guidance.
