St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622) was the Bishop of Geneva (Calvinist territory). People wouldn't listen to his sermons. So he started slipping tracts under their doors at night. (The first thumb-scroll marketing).
His Motto
"You catch more flies with a spoonful of honey than with a barrel of vinegar." He was incredibly gentle. He taught that holiness is not just for monks. It is for soldiers, mothers, and shopkeepers. His book Introduction to the Devout Life was the first self-help book for lay Catholics.
Why Journalists?
Because he used the media of his day (printed tracts) to spread the truth.
