Why 'The Family That Prays Together Stays Together'

It is a famous slogan. But who said it? The story of Fr. Patrick Peyton and the Rosary Crusade.

You've seen it on billboards. You've heard it in homilies. "The Family That Prays Together Stays Together."

The Rosary Priest

It was coined by Fr. Patrick Peyton (1909-1992), an Irish immagrant to the U.S. who was miraculously healed of tuberculosis through the Rosary. He dedicated his life to promoting the Family Rosary. He was a media genius. He got Hollywood stars (Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra) to appear on his radio shows to promote prayer.

The Logic

Why does it work?

  1. Vulnerability: You can't stay angry at your spouse while kneeling next to them praying to God.
  2. Shared Vision: It aligns the family's "compass" to True North (Heaven).
  3. Peace: It invites the Prince of Peace into the living room.
