Who we areSt. George’s Anglican Church is comprised primarily of former “low church” Episcopalians, many of whom were reared in the pre-1960s atmosphere and discipline of the Protestant Episcopal Church. Others became disillusioned with the successor Episcopal Church as it departed from orthodoxy, Scripture, and the traditional Anglican movement. Following the King James Version of the Bible and the 1928 Book of Common Prayer, St. George’s replicates in every respect the ritual and practices of the pre-1960s Protestant Episcopal Church. Our Rector, The Most Reverend Dr. H. Reginald Hammond (who is also the Presiding Bishop of the Anglican Episcopal Church and is featured in Tom Brokaw’s book, The Greatest Generation) is assisted by The Rev. Mr. David E. Pressey as Curate. The Reverends Dr. Ronald Ryan and Mr. Thomas Brooks, Esq., are ordained Deacons and assist in the services and visitations. Our Parish worships in a lovely chapel, beautifully appointed, with some forty to sixty worshipers on a typical Sunday (we had 84 for Easter Communion and 128 for a recent Ordination). A social hour is held in the Parish Hall following services. Located in Ventura, California, St. George’s congregants come from a number of communities in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, northwest of Los Angeles. Ours is a “Happy Church” with a small church atmosphere. All persons of good will professing the Christian faith are encouraged to join us in our worship services. St. George’s is one of three parishes which have acceded to the Anglican Episcopal Church. The other two are St. Augustine’s in Hollister, CA, and St. Andrew’s in Wasilla, Alaska.
