Brief HistoryIt was in 1992 that the Namibia Annual Conference decided to establish a new congregation in the newly established Windhoek suburbs of Wanaheda and Soweto. The Rev. Hendrik /Gariseb was assigned and a group of members disaffiliated from Ebenezer AME Church (Katutura) and St. Andrews AME Church (Khomasdal) to become the core founding members of Purity AME Church. In 1997 the Rev. Johannes J Schmidt was assigned and he was succeeded in 1998 by the Rev. Petrus S M Kooper, and in 1999 by the Rev. Anita Apollus. During the 46th Session of the Namibia Annual Conference, held from September 6-10, 2000 Bishop Gregory G M Ingram has appointed the Rev. Willem Simon Hanse.

Immediate ChallengeDuring 1996 the congregation was succesful in their bid for a large prime land along Independence Avenue in Wanaheda. We are still in the process to pay the local Municipal Council for that erf, and are also shaping plans to erect a church building during the 2000-2004 quadrennium. We are about 170 members, of which only 25% are employed. Thus, we face an uphill challenge but are determined and committed to climb this mountain by the grace of God. Our services and meetings are currently conducted in the buildings of Namibia College for Open Learning (NAMCOL) and we thank God for that. We are also glad to have been voted to receive and host the 47th Session of the Namibia Annual Conference during September 2001. We invite all Christians all over the world to pray for us, our mission and our preparations. We look forward hearing from you and to open into mutually beneficial peer-to-peer partnership programs, and promise to deal with all correspondence promptly. God’s blessings be yours in abundance. Shalom
