THE NATIONAL SHRINE OF BARBADOS
Our Lady of the Rosary was erected as a National Shrine where Catholics would go on pilgrimage on a regular basis. between the Months of May and October on the Sunday nearest the 13th special devotions are held there and the Rosary is led by special groups such as the Legion of Mary, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Charismatics and the Cursillo Movement. We wish to encourage Catholics not to wait for these special dates but to frequent this shrine and offer prayers there.

The Holy Rosary
After the Eucharist the Rosary is perhaps the most popular act of devotion found among Catholics. This string of beads on which Catholics reflect on the Mystery of Christ is referred to as Our Lady’s Psalter. It is prayed by paupers as well as the affluent, by men as well as women and by children the world over. Many devout Catholics carry this in their cars, their hand bags, their pockets or suspended on their necks believing that this Sacred object will protect them from harm. The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in St. John was built to remind and encourage Catholics in Barbados to deepen their love for Our Lady and to offer this act of worship regularly. The feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is observed on October 7th each year and so we wish all the Catholics who worship at Verdun God’s blessings this year as they celebrate their feast.
