In many homes, the TV is king. In others, the smartphone rules. The Enthronement of the Sacred Heart is a conscious decision to say: "No. In this house, Jesus is King."
It is more than just hanging a picture. It is a covenant.
What You Need
- An image or statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
- An image of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (optional but recommended).
- A priest (ideal) or the head of the household (father/mother) to lead.
- Holy Water.
The Ceremony Steps
1. Preparation
Place the image in a place of honor (living room mantle or main wall). Decorate with flowers and candles.
2. The Blessing
If a priest is present, he blesses the image. If not, sprinkle it with Holy Water.
3. The Enthronement
The head of the household places the image in its permanent spot. Leader: "We welcome you, Lord Jesus, into our home and into our hearts. Be the King of this family."
4. The Consecration Prayer
Recite the Act of Consecration together:
O Sacred Heart of Jesus... we choose You as the sole Ruler and King of our home. We consecrate to You our souls, our bodies, our possessions, and our lives...
5. Signing the Certificate
It is traditional to sign a certificate with the date and the names of all family members. Frame it near the image.
Living It Out
The Enthronement is not a one-time event.
- Renew the consecration every year on the Feast of the Sacred Heart.
- Greet Jesus when you leave and enter the house.
- Make decisions asking: "What would the King want us to do?"
