The world pretends death doesn't exist. We hide it in hospitals. We put makeup on corpses. The Church puts a skeleton on the altar.
Memento Mori
"Remember you will die." It is not meant to scare you. It is meant to focus you. If you knew you had 1 week to live, would you waste time scrolling TikTok? Or would you forgive your brother, confess your sins, and hug your kids? Death clarifies life.
The Door (Dies Natalis)
The early Christians called the day of death Dies Natalis (Birthday). They understood that this life is the womb. It is dark, cramped, and temporary. Death is the birth canal into the real world.
St. Joseph, Patron of the Dying
We pray to St. Joseph for a "Happy Death" because he died in the arms of Jesus and Mary. That is the goal: To die in the state of grace, surrounded by love.
Prepare for the big day. Pray the Litany of St. Joseph on the MyPrayerTower app.
A Prayer for Grace
As you reflect on these spiritual truths, we invite you to join us in this prayer:
"Lord Jesus, we thank You for the wisdom of the Church and the witness of the saints. Grant us the grace to live out our faith with joy and perseverance. May our prayers be a sweet incense rising to Your throne, and may Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Amen."
