There are only two mandatory days of fasting in the whole year: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

The Rules (Canon 1251-1252)

  1. Abstinence (No Meat):

    • Who: Everyone age 14+.
    • When: Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and ALL Fridays in Lent.
    • Note: Fish, eggs, and dairy are fine. Chicken stock is debated (but usually okay).
  2. Fasting (Less Food):

    • Who: Adults age 18 to 59.
    • What: One full meal. Two smaller meals that together don't equal a full meal. No snacking between meals.
    • Liquids: Water, coffee, tea, juice are allowed at any time. (Liquid does not break the fast).
  3. Exemptions:

    • Pregnant/Nursing women.
    • Sick/Diabetic.
    • Manual laborers.

Hunger helps you pray. Offer it up. MyPrayerTower app.
